Mindstorms and Pneumatic can be connected in many different ways. One of them I will present here.
I use Mindstorms to drive an electric compressor which delivers air for the Pneumatic system. I connect a rotation sensor to a Pneumatic lever. Mindstorms now is able to react on every change of angle of the Pneumatic lever by turning on or turning off the motor of the compressor. Because there are three sensor input ports on Mindstorms, three different Pneumatic applications can be controlled. It is also possible to control more levers by connecting them all together with a mechanical device to two touch sensors or one rotation sensor. (If anyone should figure out how, please send me a mail.)
Just one motor output is used to drive three Pneumatic functions. So the other two can be used to power as many pole reversers as you want with a constant voltage. It is possible to build for example a model of an excavator with three Pneumatic functions for the boom, stick and the bucket and three (or more) electrically controlled functions such as left and right crawler and revolving upper structure.
